Funkyflick: A New Way to Find Movies You'll Love!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Funkyflick Company. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love movies. I guess I should revise that to say that I love old movies, and movies that aren't your typical Hollywood flicks, boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, one of them screws up, then fixes it, or the typical Hollywood action--shoot everything and what you don't shoot, make explode somehow.

Finding movies I'd enjoy can be a challenge, as while one of my friends is a huge movie buff, he's into horror movies, and that definitely doesn't pop my popcorn! I've tried asking other friends, but their tastes can be very different. I've tried IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and other sites, but that too is dependent on other's opinions.

Enter http://www.funkyflick.com, a site that recommends movies for you, based on a movie or book you select. It then searches the wiki pages for that movie, or book, and pulls out actors, plots, and themes from that movie or book. It then processes those, and pulls up movies that have similar actors, plots and/or themes. I love that it provides accurate movie recommendations in a few simple steps.

I no longer need to rely on friends and their opinions, or the opinions of strangers. Rather, now I can have recommendations that actually are similar to movies I like!

How to Search

  1. Go to: FunkyFlick
  2. Type in a movie you like
  3. Click: Flick It
  4. Wait for your results to display

I first searched for Casablanca, and my results included:

  • To Have and Have Not
  • Passage to Marseille
  • The Maltese Falcon
  • The Big Sleep
  • Escape
  • Watch on the Rhine
  • Voyage of the Damned
  • The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
  • The Seventh Cross
  • The Notebook
  • The African Queen

It also listed another 24 movies. It included quite a few movies with Humphrey Bogart, plus several "old" movies with a sprinkling of newer movies.

I'm very excited that I have a new way to find movies, and one that doesn't depend on personal recommendations!

From a banner on the website, they intend on releasing a search for books as well, so you can also search for new books to read. If you subscribe, you receive a free lifetime membership. I don't quite know what that gets you, but if you like free, and you like books, it may be worthwhile!

Try searching here: new movies!
